Vikings Pick Up Third Straight Win With 61-51 Victory At Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Cleveland State women's basketball team extended its winstreak to three straight games Monday evening, as the Vikings picked up a 61-51 victory at Hofstra.

Game Stats
• Three Vikings finished the game with double-figure points, led by Mariah White with 15. Nadia Dumas added 13 points, while Mariah Miller chipped in 10.
Mariah Miller grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while Mariah White recorded seven boards.
• As a team, the Vikings recorded 17 assists on 23 made field goals, with seven coming from Mariah White and five coming from Savanna Crockett.
Mariah White posted a team-high five steals on the night.
Savanna Crockett and Nadia Dumas both recorded two blocked shots on the game.
• The Vikings posted a .469 clip from the field against Hofstra, marking the third straight game that they have shot 43-percent or better from the floor.

Nadia Dumas marked a career-high with her 13 points at Hofstra, going 6-for-7 from the field to tie her career-best shooting performance.

For the third straight game, the Vikings were able to jump out to a quick start over the opening minutes of the contest, as Cleveland State was able to gain a 5-0 lead on a Savanna Crockett layup and Mariah Miller three-pointer just 43 seconds into the game. The Vikings then extended their lead to 12-3 over the next three minutes, as a JaMiya Braxton three-pointer at the 6:27 mark gave CSU a nine-point lead midway through the frame.

The Vikings were able to control play throughout the remainder of the first quarter then, taking a 20-10 lead into the second frame following a last second Mariah White three-pointer.

Although both teams struggled offensively throughout the opening minutes of the second quarter, the Vikings were finally able to string together a 7-2 run midway through the frame, gaining a 27-12 advantage on a White layup. Cleveland State held its lead throughout the final part of the second quarter then, taking a 34-22 advantage into the halftime break.

Cleveland State was able to carry its momentum into the third quarter, as a Crockett jumper opened the scoring to give the Vikings a 36-22 lead after their first possession of the frame. A pair of three-pointers from Braxton and Miller over the next few plays extended the Vikings' lead to 44-26, and then they closed out the quarter with a 19-point advantage at 55-36.

Despite Hofstra gaining some momentum throughout the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, a White steal and layup at the 6:27 mark stopped the Pride run and gave Cleveland State a 59-41 lead with just over half of the frame left to play. This lead wouldn't last long though, as the Viking offense went cold over the next five minutes, as Hofstra went on an 8-0 run to close the gap to 59-49 with 1:40 left on the clock.

The Vikings were able to hold on to their double-digit lead over the closing moments of the frame, as a pair of free throws from White and Nadia Dumas clinched the 61-51 victory for the Vikings.
