Miller Notches Career-High 25 Points As Vikings Defeat UIC, 74-48

CHICAGO, Ill. – Behind a career-high 25-point performance from Mariah Miller, the Cleveland State women's basketball team picked up its third straight win Friday evening, picking up a 74-48 victory at UIC. With the win, the Vikings improve to 10-13 overall this season, and 7-5 in Horizon League action.

The Game
After two quarters of play, Cleveland State held a 43-14 advantage at the halftime break after holding UIC to single digits during both the first and second periods. Through just 20 minutes of play, Rachel Slaney and Mariah Miller combined for 30 of Cleveland State's 43 points, while they also grabbed nine of Cleveland State's 27 rebounds.

Early on in the first quarter, Cleveland State posted nine straight points to gain its first double-digit lead of the game at 14-4 with just over three minutes left to play. The Vikings then closed out the first quarter with another 5-0 run, taking a 19-8 lead into the second frame.

Throughout the second quarter the Vikings were able to outscore UIC 24-6, including a 13-0 run over a five-minute span that put Cleveland State up 38-12. Although the Flames were able to stop the Viking run with a basket of their own at the 1:12 mark, Cleveland State responded with four straight points to take the 29-point lead into halftime.

Despite UIC outscoring the Vikings 17-16 in the third quarter, Cleveland State was still able to take a 28-point lead into the final 10 minutes of action, holding a 59-31 advantage.

Although the two teams played a back-and-forth fourth quarter, the Vikings were able to hold onto their sizeable advantage throughout the final 10 minutes, coming away with the 74-48 victory to extend their current winstreak to three straight games.
