Vikings Fall At No. 8 Ohio State, 96-78

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Despite four players finishing in double-figures, the Cleveland State women's basketball team fell at No. 8 Ohio State Wednesday evening, dropping a 96-78 contest against the Buckeyes. The Vikings fall to 1-1 on the season, while Ohio State is now 2-1.

Game Stats
· Ashanti Abshaw posted a team-high 25 points, including a 5-for-10 effort from behind-the-arc, to lead the Viking offense.
· Khayla Livingston tallied 14 points, while Nicolete Newman added 13 and Olivia Voskuhl posted 10.
· Mariah Miller grabbed a team-high six rebounds, while Ashanti Abshaw and Olivia Voskuhl each posted five boards.
· Khayla Livingston posted six assists on the night, while Olivia Voskuhl recorded four.
·The Vikings shot 39-percent from the floor on the night, along with a 40-percent clip from three-point.

Game Notes
· This was the first ranked opponent for the Vikings since the 2011-12 season.
· Cleveland State's 14 three-pointers tied the single-game high for an Ohio State opponent.
· With Ashanti Abshaw's 25 points, this marked the second straight game that a Viking player finished with 20+ points.
· Redshirt freshman Emily Stoller scored her first collegiate points at Ohio State, converting a three-pointer in the fourth quarter.

The Game
During the opening quarter the Vikings were able to stick with the Buckeyes, as they stayed within single digits of No. 8 Ohio State – including bringing the game to 18-17 following an Ashanti Abshaw three-pointer and a Khayla Livingston free throw at the 3:10 mark – until the Buckeyes went on a 10-0 run to close the frame. Entering the second quarter, Ohio State held a 28-17 advantage.

Cleveland State was once again able to get out to a strong start to begin the second quarter, as the Vikings went on a 6-2 run with a pair of three-pointers from Nicolete Newman and Alexis Eckles, bringing the score to 30-23 Ohio State at the 8:58 mark. The No. 8 Buckeyes were once again able to go on a run to close out the period though, as Ohio State held a 51-34 advantage at the half.

Ohio State was able to outscore the Vikings 28-18 during the third quarter then to gain control of the contest, heading into the final 10 minutes with a 79-52 lead. The Vikings weren't done yet though, as they were able to outscore the Buckeyes 26-17 during the fourth quarter, but it wasn't quite enough, as Ohio State pulled out the 96-78 victory.
