Four Score In Double-Figures As Vikings Come Up Short Against Detroit

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Despite four players finishing in double-figures, the Cleveland State women's basketball team came up just short against Detroit Thursday evening, falling to the Titans, 66-60. The Vikings are now 4-16 on the season, and 1-9 in Horizon League play.

Game Stats
· Adesuwa Aideyman led four Vikings in double-figures with 17 points, including a 4-for-6 performance from three-point.
· Olivia Voskuhl added 14 points, while Ashanti Abshaw tallied 12 and Brooke Smith added 10.
· Olivia Voskuhl grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, while Ashanti Abshaw posted seven and Shadae Bosley added five.
· Khayla Livingston posted a team-high four assists.
· As a team, Cleveland State posted 13 steals, with Ashanti Abshaw recording five and Brooke Smith notching four.

The Game
After going into the halftime break down by 10 points at the 37-27 mark, Cleveland State was able to close the gap to single digits over the opening minutes of the third quarter, but Detroit responded with a four-point mini run that extended their lead back to double-digits at the 44-13 mark. The Titans were then able to hold a double-digit lead for the remainder of the frame, and went into the final 10 minutes of play leading, 52-40.

To start the fourth quarter, Adesuwa Aideyman rattled off three straight three-pointers for the Vikings over a span of 1:51, bringing Cleveland State within three points at the 52-49 mark with 7:02 left to play. The Titans once again responded with a run of their own to regain an eight-point lead at the 57-49 mark, but Aideyman brought the Vikings back with a layup at the 5:13 mark to put the score at 57-51.

After forcing a Detroit turnover on the ensuing possession, Ashanti Abshaw was able to sink a three-pointer with just under five minutes on the clock, to bring the Vikings back within three points at 57-54. Cleveland State then inched closer with a free throw from Nicolete Newman at the 3:53 mark (57-55), but that would be as close as the Vikings would get, as Detroit answered with another 6-0 run to put the Titan lead back at 63-55. The Titans were then able to close out the final two minutes of play, coming away with the 66-60 victory.
