Vikings Fall To UNCG To Finish Non-League Play

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Cleveland State women's basketball team wrapped up non-league play Monday afternoon, falling to UNCG, 55-51 in the consolation game of the Tulane Classic.

Game Stats
· Khayla Livingston posted a team-high 15 points along with four rebounds and three assists.
· Ashanti Abshaw recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
· Olivia Voskuhl finished with six points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
· As a team the Vikings recorded 13 steals, including a career-high eight from Brooke Smith.

Game Notes
· The Vikings posted double-digit steals for the eighth time this season and the second straight game.
· Cleveland State finished the non-league portion of its schedule with a 3-7 record.

The Game
Despite getting off to a slow start to begin the first 10 minutes of play, the Vikings were able to erase a double-digit deficit over a six-minute span, gaining a 17-15 advantage just over one minute into the second quarter. Cleveland State went on a 15-2 run over the end of the first frame and the start of the second quarter to earn this advantage, and then went on to gain a double-digit lead at 27-17 at the 4:36 mark of the second quarter.

Cleveland State was able to go into the halftime break up by eight points at 29-21, and then went on a 10-2 run to start the third quarter to extend its lead to 39-23 with just over six minutes left to play in the third frame. Over the final minutes of the third quarter UNCG was able to cut Cleveland State's lead back to single digits following a 9-2 run of their own, putting the score at 44-37 going into the final 10 minutes of play.

During the fourth quarter UNCG was able to slowly work its way back into the contest, and regained control of the game in the final minutes, closing out the contest on an 8-0 run that gave them the four-point victory.
