Strong First Half Sends Vikings To 69-48 Victory Over Bowling Green

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Behind a strong first half shooting performance, the Cleveland State women's basketball team picked up its second straight victory Saturday afternoon, defeating Bowling Green, 69-48. With the win, the Vikings are now 2-4 on the season.

Game Stats
· Khayla Livingston tied her career-high with a game-high 21 points – including a 5-for-7 performance from behind-the-arc.
· Adesuwa Aideyman posted 17 points – her third straight 17-point game.
· Ashanti Abshaw also notched double-digit points for the Vikings, posting 16 points along with a team-high eight rebounds.
· Olivia Voskuhl, Khayla Livingston, and Brooke Smith each grabbed seven boards on the game.
· As a team, Cleveland State shot 38-percent from the floor and 46-percent from three-point.
· During the first half, the Vikings posted a .485 clip from the field, including a .550 clip from three-point.

Game Notes
· This marked CSU's second straight win of the season and the Vikings' first win at home.
· The Vikings remain perfect during the month of December, owning a 2-0 record.
· Saturday's win snapped a six-game winstreak for the Falcons in the overall series.
· Cleveland State held a 47-13 lead at the halftime break, holding Bowling Green to single-digit points in both quarters.

The Game
Cleveland State came out hot from the beginning of the contest, as the Vikings converted six three-pointers during the first 10 minutes of action, including a string of five straight to put the Vikings up 15-3 with 1:48 left in the first period. During the opening quarter, all but one point was scored off of a three-point field goal, as Bowling Green converted a free throw in the final seconds of the frame, to put the score at 18-7 Cleveland State.

To begin the second quarter both teams traded three-point shots once again, and then a 19-0 run from the Vikings gave Cleveland State a 28-point advantage at 40-12 with 1:37 left in the first half. During this stretch, Cleveland State got seven points from Adesuwa Aideyman and Ashanti Abshaw, three points from Khalya Livingston, and two from Brooke Smith.

Although Bowling Green was able to stop the CSU run with a free throw at the 1:28 mark, the Vikings closed out the frame with seven straight points, and went into the halftime break with a 34-point advantage (47-13).

To start the second half, Bowling Green posted a 7-2 run over the first 3:36 of the third quarter, but Cleveland State responded once again with an 8-1 run to put the Vikings back up by at 36 points (57-23) at the 4:35 mark of the third frame. Cleveland State was then able to hold onto its 30-point lead for the remainder of the quarter, going into the final 10 minutes of action with a 62-31 lead.

The Falcons were able to make a strong comeback during the fourth quarter, going on a 13-2 run while holding the Vikings scoreless for 5:48 to put the score at 64-44 with just 3:00 minutes left to play. Bowling Green would eventually run out of time though, as Cleveland State was able to close out the game and come away with the 21-point victory.
