Vikings Pick Up First Win With 60-49 Decision At Kent State

KENT, Ohio – Behind a pair of double-doubles from Olivia Voskuhl and Ashanti Abshaw the Cleveland State women's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2015-16 season Wednesday evening, defeating Kent State, 60-49. The Vikings now stand at 1-4 on the young season.

Match Stats
· Olivia Voskuhl recorded her first double-double of the season with a career-high 11 rebounds and 14 points.
· Ashanti Abshaw notched her second double-double of the season with a career-high 13 rebounds and 11 points.
· Adesuwa Aideyman posted a team-high 17 points – including four three-pointers.
· Cleveland State recorded 11 steals as a team.

The Game
After getting out to a slow start, the Vikings were able to bounce back from a six-point deficit at the end of the first quarter, gaining a two-point lead at the 18-16 mark less than five minutes into the second quarter. The Vikings were able to gain this lead after opening the frame with eight straight points, including back-to-back three-pointers from Olivia Voskuhl and Nicolete Newman.

Cleveland State then controlled play for the rest of the second quarter, going into the halftime break with an eight-point advantage at 32-24 following an Adesuwa Aideyman three-pointer in the closing seconds of the first half.

Although both teams were held off the board through the opening minutes of third frame, Cleveland State was able to gain a double-digit lead at 34-24 following an Aideyman layup at the 8:05 mark. The Vikings were able to hold a double-digit advantage over the next minute of play then, until a Kent State run brought the Golden Flashes within three points at the 39-36 mark with just 4:23 left to play in the third quarter. The Vikings responded with a mini 4-0 run to extend their lead back to seven points, and then closed out the third quarter with a six-point advantage (46-40) after Khayla Livingston converted a three-pointer as time expired.

To open the fourth quarter, Cleveland State went on an 8-1 run over the first 4:34 to regain a double-digit lead at 54-41, and then controlled play throughout the remainder of the contest, to come away with the 11-point victory.
