Women's Basketball Earns 76-66 Victory At Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Cleveland State women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid Monday evening, defeating Valparaiso 76-66. With the win the Vikings now stand at 9-11 on the season and 4-3 in Horizon League play.

Offensively the Vikings were paced by three in double-figures led by Cori Coleman who tallied 24 points including five three-pointers. Adesuwa Aideyman tallied a career-high 22 points, including seven three-pointers – which ties for the second best single game mark in program history. Imani Gordon rounded out this group notching 13 points.

As a team, Cleveland State knocked down 15 three-pointers which is a game-high for the season and the second-best single game mark in program history.

The Vikings went into the halftime break with a 10-point lead at the 36-26 mark, with 15 of those points coming from Aideyman who notched five first half three-pointers.

Valpo opened up the second half on a 7-0 run to close the gap to three points (36-33), before a Gordon layup ended the run at the 18:12 mark. The Vikings then responded with a 6-1 run of their own to extend their lead back to double-digits at 44-34 with just over 16 minutes remaining.

The Vikings were able to hold a sizeable lead over the next six minutes, until Valparaiso went on an 8-2 run to come within four points at the 58-54 mark with just 9:38 remaining. CSU was then able to extend its lead back to nine-points with 4:54 remaining, following a 7-2 run that ended on a Coleman three-pointer.

The two teams then traded points over the next 3:35 until CSU closed the contest with four straight points from the free throw line to earn the 10-point victory.

The Vikings shot 44-percent from the floor (26-for-58) and 45-percent from three-point (15-for-33) on the contest, and notched 14 assists – including a team-high six from Kiersten Green.

The Vikings will return home on Saturday (Feb. 1), hosting Youngstown State at 2:00 p.m. Saturday's contest will mark the start of a four-game homestand for the Vikings.
