May 7, 2001

The Cleveland State University wrestling team finished 2001 with the eighth-best grade point average in the country to be named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association's (NWCA) 2001 Academic Top Twenty-five in Division I. Team rankings are selected by taking the average GPA of each team's starting ten wrestlers along with two backups that wrestled in at least one varsity match. The Vikes checked in with a 3.136 GPA.

Princeton University received honors as the top-ranked academic team in Division I, with a team GPA of 3.43. The Tigers achievement is a repeat of their 2000 top ranking. Stanford University ranked second with a 3.235 grade point average followed by Boston College (3.226), Harvard University (3.223) and Central Michigan (3.187). Rounding out the top ten teams in order were: James Madison (3.166), Duquesne (3.150), Cleveland State, Cornell (3.120) and Brown (3.120).

Individually for the Vikings, NCAA qualifiers Rocco Mansueto (Middletown, NY/Middletown) and Nick Boucher (Sunfield, MI/Lakewood) along with freshman Anthony Coleman (Bellevue, OH/Bellevue) were named NWCA Academic All-America honorable mention. Mansueto, a sophomore, carries a 3.44 in psychology while Boucher, a junior, owns a 3.28 gpa in biology education. A freshman with an undecided major, Coleman posted a 3.48 gpa.
