Oklahoma City - After the first day of competition at the NCAA Championships, a trio of Vikings scored wins to move on to the second day of the tournament on Friday (March 17). Senior Ron Howard tallied a first round win, while sophomore David Armstrong and freshman Rashard Goff each scored a victory in the consolation bracket.

The 184-pound Eastern Wrestling League Champion, Howard began his third appearance in the NCAA Championships in familiar fashion, scoring his 13th-straight victory in the first round on Thursday afternoon. Howard doubled-up Harvard's Louis Caputo for his first win of the tournament, an 8-4 decision.

The senior's win streak would come to an end in the second round, however, as Howard fell in a heart-breaking overtime bout to drop to the consolation bracket. Trailing 9-8 to Joshua Glenn of American with two seconds remaining in the bout, Howard scored a quick takedown to force overtime with a 10-10 tie after Glenn earned the riding time point. Howard was unable to score in the extra periods, however, as Glenn went on to a 14-10 decision.

Armstrong and Goff each recovered from opening round losses in the consolation bracket, with Armstrong (133) scoring a 14-7 decision over Jared Royer of North Carolina and Goff (285) earning a 4-2 win over Matt Weight of Illinois.

Sophomore's Mike and Ryan Hurley were eliminated from the tournament after coming up short in their opening round bouts before falling in the consolation bracket.

Second day action gets underway at 10:00 a.m. CST at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City.
