CSU Grapplers Pound Ohio University 30-6.

Cleveland - Cleveland State opened up with a 15-3 lead over Ohio University in an intra-state wrestling match Saturday night at Woodling Gymnasium and the Vikings coasted to a 30-6 win over the Bobcats.

At 125, #18 Rocco Mansueto (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) gave the Vikings a shot of electricity by pinning Jason Daviaux with 0:57 left in the first period. Fellow senior Phil Mansueto (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown), ranked #12 at 133, followed with a hard fought win over Anthony Carrizales, while junior Matt Depolo (Bellevue, Ohio/Bellevue) lost 4-2, in a close match, to Paul Hodermarsky at 141.

Junior Anthony Coleman (Bellevue, Ohio/Bellevue), who is currently #20 in the rankings at 149, continued his winning ways by pinning Jon Spires with 1:28 left in the first period to give CSU a 15-3 advantage.

At 157, true freshman Josh Ging (Mantua, Ohio/Kenston) fought hard but was not successful as he lost to Robert Lyons 5-0, giving Ohio its second and last win of the night.

In the most exciting match of the evening, Jason Effner (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield) picked up a spirited win by defeating Luke Moore 2-1 in sudden death on a stalling point. At 174, Matt Klinger (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) wrestled well and upset Ed Willis 6-4 with a brilliant takedown in the final seconds of the match.

At 189, #4 Gerald Harris (Tulsa, Okla./East Central) worked methodically as he recorded a 10-4 decision over Travis Smith. For Harris, it was his 109th career victory and puts him just three wins away from the school record of 112 set by Toby Matney from 1976-79 at 158 and 167 pounds.

Junior heavyweight Russ Davie (Perrysburg,OH/Perrysburg) finished the match By defeating Jeremiah Beltran 3-2.With three dual matches to go, the Vikes have improved their record to 11-5. The Vikings will be in action next Thursday, February 13 at Woodling Gym as they take on Clarion at 7:30 p.m. Prior to the CSU match, there will be a YMCA Youth Match beginning at 5 p.m.
