Box Score

Emotions ran high between two Ohio rivals tonight as the Ohio University Bobcats soundly defeated a flat Cleveland State team, 36-2. The match began and ended with Bobcat wins, while CSU managed just one victory in between. In fact, the Vikings mustered only three reversals and two takedowns in ten matches.

Ohio's John Wervey started the night with a 15-6 victory over Jeff Polk at 165 lbs. Wervey had six takedowns and one reversal. It wasn't until four more matches that heavyweight Don Caramell would give the Vikes their first points from a takedown. However, Ohio's Brad Bauer caught Caramell in double-underhooks and pinned him in 2:21. Frustration began to seethe for CSU in the 141-pound match. Ohio's Shane Hartzler twice used an illegal back bow against Ryan Guciardo in the first period. The move drove Guciardo's leg straight up his back, instead of at the legal 45-degree angle. The referee acknowledged the move as potentially dangerous, causing tension to build on both teams' bench. Hartzler won the match, 2-0, and flagrant misconduct by Guciardo after the horn cost the Vikings a team point.

In the ninth match Anthony Coleman scored a reversal in the third period to give CSU their first and only win of the night. It also gave Coleman win number 22 on the season, matching his total from a year ago as a redshirt.
