CLEVELAND - Buoyed by four straight wins to close out the evening, #25 Cleveland State upended visiting Eastern Michigan 24-13 in a non-league wrestling contest Tuesday night at Woodling Gymnasium.
With CSU trailing 13-10, Matt Klinger's (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) 4-3 decision over Adam Gilmore at 174 was pivotal for the Vikings and began the Vikings' string of wins to end the match. After Klinger tied the match at 13-all, major decisions by #4 Gerald Harris (Tulsa, Okla./East Central) at 184 over Jason Johnson, 16-6, and Stipe Miocic (Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North) at 197 over Travis Kraft, 14-2, gave CSU an unsurmountable 21-13 lead with one bout remaining. #16 Russ Davie (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) added the final difference with a 5-0 decision over Dane Bonnigson at heavyweight.
The Vikings, who improved to 8-4 in dual matches, opened the bout with a pair of wins by the Mansueto brothers. #17 Rocco Mansueto (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) posted an 11-4 decision over Williams Green and #13 Phil Mansueto (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) turned in a 16-7 major decision over Zac Pyles at 133 to give the Vikes a 7-0 lead.
However, Anthony Coleman's (Bellevue, Ohio/Bellevue) 4-1 decision over Nick Conklin at 149 would be CSU's only win over the next four weight classes.
The Vikings' next dual meet action will be on Friday, Jan. 31 when CSU hosts Lock Haven University in an Eastern Wrestling League match at 7:30 p.m. at Woodling Gymnasium.
