Heavyweight Russ Davie Gives CSU Victory Over Indiana

CLEVELAND - A nip-and-tuck dual with #23 Indiana University came down to the final match for #24 Cleveland State Sunday at the Wendy's Duals at Ashland University and heavyweight Russ Davie (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) provided the Vikings with a 21-15 victory.

With the match tied at 15-all, Davie pinned IU's Joel Powers in 1:49 to provide CSU with the mild upset of the Big Ten school.

IU went up 3-0 after #12 Joe Dubuque beat #17 Rocco Mansueto (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) 8-4 at 125 but #11 Phil Mansueto (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) downed Greg Schaefer 3-2 at 133 to even the score at 3-all.

The Hoosiers regained the lead after Coyte Cooper pinned Paul Theodore (Youngstown, Ohio/Boardman) at 141 but then CSU tallied four straight decisions by Anthony Coleman (Bellevue, Ohio/Bellevue) at 149, Chris Kallai (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) at 157, Jason Effner (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield) at 165 and Ron Howard (Cincinnati, Ohio/Finneytown) at 174 to move ahead 15-9.

However, the Vikings lost two close decisions at 184 and 197 as #4 Gerald Harris (Tulsa, Okla./East Central) was upset 3-2 by Ty Matthews and Stipe Miocic (Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North) fell 6-4 to Pat DeGain and the Hoosiers tied things up at 15-all.
