Joe Coughlin

Joe Coughlin joined Ben Stehura's staff in 2010 as a graduate assistant after spending two years as a volunteer assistant at Drexel University. While helping the Vikings wrestling team, Coughlin will be pursuing his Master's in public administration.

As a student-athlete, Coughlin had a terrific career at George Mason University in addition to earning his degree in communication. He wrapped up his career with a 74-48 record, including a 21-10 record in Colonial Athletic Association matches.

Coughlin peaked as a senior, finishing third on the team with 22 wins while wrestling exclusively at 133 pounds. He set a new career high by recording eight falls and finished third on the team with five major decisions.

He finished third at 133 pounds at both the Navy Classic and CAA Championships.

Coughlin posted a 5-3 record in CAA matches in 2007-08 at 133 pounds, but was 14-3 in his first two seasons while wrestling at 125 pounds. In 2005-06, he was tied for the team lead with eight conference victories.

Prior to his days at George Mason, he had a solid four-year varsity career at Hatboro-Horsham High School (Pa.). Coughlin posted 107 career victories and was selected first-team all-league as a senior after earning all-league honorable mention status in 2001, 2002 and 2003. In 2004, his senior campaign, he placed fifth at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Class AAA state tournament and qualified on two other occasions.

Academically, Coughlin made the Pennsylvania All-Academic team for his efforts in the classroom and made the Honor Roll at George Mason.
