Cleveland State Wrestling Completes Day One of Davidson Duals

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Cleveland State (1-6) dropped both matches on day one of the Davidson Duals. The Vikings started the day with a 22-18 setback against Gardner Webb (3-3) and then fell to Little Rock (7-4), 41-3.

Match 1: Cleveland State 18, Gardner Webb 22
Gardner Webb opened the afternoon with a 6-3 decision at 125 pounds, before Nick Molchak won 6-3 at 133-pounds to even the match at three-apiece.

The Bulldogs answered back with consecutive decisions to reclaim a 9-3 advantage. Shane Heil pulled the Green and White to within two behind a 22-9 major decision at 157-pounds.

Daniel Patten gave the Vikings their lone lead of the match, 12-9, after recording a 21-4 technical fall at 165-pounds.

Gardner Webb used a fall at 174-pounds, a major decision at 184-pounds, and a decision at 197-pounds to reclaim a 22-12 advantage.

No. 23 Daniel Bucknavich capped off the afternoon with a fall at heavyweight, but it wasn't enough as Cleveland State fell, 22-18.

Match 2: Cleveland State 3, Little Rock 41
Little Rock raced out to an 11-0 lead behind a fall at 125-pounds and a technical fall at 133-pounds.

Dylan Layton tallied the lone points for the Vikings with a 5-2 decision at 141-pound to trail 11-3.

Little Rock won the remaining seven matches with two falls, two majors, two decisions, and a tech fall to win 41-3.
