MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Cleveland State (0-3) were defeated in both matches of the West Virginia tri-match on Sunday. The Vikings started the day with a 19-16 loss to Duke (1-1) and then were downed by the home Mountaineers (2-0), 33-9.
Jake Manley (133 Pounds), No. 27 Ben Smith (197 Pounds), and No. 25 Daniel Bucknavich (285 Pounds) each won both of their matches.
The Vikings head to the Navy Classic on Saturday, November 18, before starting MAC action on Saturday, December 2 at George Mason.
Match 1: Cleveland State 16, Duke 19
Duke claimed the early 4-0 advantage after recording a major decision at 125-pounds. The Vikings answered right back with a Jake Manley 18-4 major decision at 133-pounds and a fall by No. 22 Dylan Layton at 141-pounds to lead 10-4.
The Blue Devils then used five consecutive decisions to reclaim a 19-10 lead. No. 27 Ben Smith halted the run with a 13-11 victory at 197-pounds as the Green and White trailed 19-13.
No. 25 Daniel Bucknavich capped off the match with a 5-1 decision at 285-pounds as the Vikings fell, 19-16.

For the second straight match, the Vikings dropped the 125-pound bout by a major decision to trail 4-0. Manley recorded his second decision of the afternoon, winning 8-2 at 133-pounds to get within 4-3.
West Virginia came right back with six straight wins to extend the margin to 33-6.
No. 27 Smith picked up his second win of the day after coming from behind to win 8-7 against No. 29 Cooley. Smith used a takedown and two back points with seven seconds left to complete the comeback.
No. 25 Bucknavich ended the afternoon with a 4-1 sudden victory takedown of No. 17 Wolfgram at heavyweight as the Vikings fell, 33-9.
