Cleveland State Wrestling Drops All Three Matches at Boilmaker Duals

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Cleveland State dropped all three dual matches at the Boilermaker Duals on Sunday. The Vikings were led by Dylan Layton (141) and Daniel Bucknavich (285) as each wrestler won all three of their matches.

The Vikings return to the mat on Sunday, December 4 at the Storm Open which is hosted by Lake Erie College.

Purdue 23, Cleveland State 12
Purdue opened the dual with a major decision and decision to take a 7-0 advantage. Dylan Layton scored the first dual points of the season for the Vikings as the freshman took down three-time NCAA qualifier and No. 11 Parker Filius, 10-4 at 141-pounds to trail 7-3.

Doug Terry then brought the Green and White to within one with a 6-3 decision at 149-pounds.

The Boilermakers regrouped by winning the next four matches behind a fall, a major decision, and two decisions to lead 23-6.

Cleveland State took the final two matches via decisions from Anthony Perrine, 9-3, and Daniel Bucknavich, 6-2 as the Vikings lost 23-12.

Anthony Perrine got three points back for Cleveland State at 197-pounds with a 9-3 decision.

Chattanooga 20, Cleveland State 13
Nick Molchak put the Vikings on the board first with a 5-3 decision at 125-pounds to lead 3-0. The Mocs answered back with a 5-3 decision at 133-pounds to even the match at three apiece.

Layton picked up his second victory of the day, this time with a 10-0 major decision as the Green and White retook a 7-3 advantage. Following a 7-2 decision for UTC at 149-pounds, Shane Heil made it 10-6 in favor of CSU with a 3-2 decision at 157-pounds.

Chattanooga won the next four matches behind three decisions and a technical fall to lead 20-10. Bucknavich recorded his second decision of the day, winning 2-1, but the Vikings fell in the match, 20-13.

Northern Illinois opened the match with back-to-back falls to take a 12-0 advantage. Layton completed his perfect day after recording a 15-4 major decision at 141-pounds as Cleveland State trailed 12-4.

Three straight falls along with a decision at 174-pounds extended the Huskies lead to 33-4.

The Vikings closed the match with three straight decisions with DeAndre Nassar (7-6), Anthony Perrine (8-1), and Daniel Bucknavich (6-2), but NIU won the match 33-13.
