CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State wrestler, Riley Smucker has been named the MAC Co-Wrestler of the Week, the MAC announced Wednesday afternoon. Smucker earns this honor for the first time this season and in his career.
Smucker was the lone Viking to win a championship at the CSU Open on Saturday, claiming the 165-pound title. Smucker began the day with an 11-5 decision over Patrick Daum of West Virginia and followed that up with a 12-5 win over Eli Brinsky of Clarion.
Smucker then pinned Chandler Amaker of Central Michigan in 1:05 during the quarterfinals. He advanced to the title match after pinning Jake Null of NC State in 1:21.
In the championship match, Smucker upended Tracy Hubbard of Central Michigan, 6-4.
Cleveland State returns to the mat on Monday, December 20 with a tri-match against Chattanooga and West Virginia in Morgantown, W.V. The Vikings face the Mocs at 10:30 a.m. and the Mountaineers at 1:30 p.m.
