Vikings Post Strong Semester in Classroom

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University wrestling team produced one of its best academic performances in recent history during the recently completed fall semester.

As a team, the Vikings notched a 3.539 grade point average during the fall campaign.

Five Vikings led the way by producing sterling 4.0 averages in the fall—redshirt senior Ryan Ford, true freshman Jax Leonard, redshirt junior Cody Moosman, redshirt senior Justin Patrick and redshirt freshman Anthony Rice.

Ford and Patrick are currently in graduate school, with the former seeking a licensure in special education and the latter working on his Master's in Business Administration. Meanwhile, Leonard is an accounting major, Moosman is seeing a degree in finance and Rice is a psychology major.

Twenty four of the 27 Vikings on the current roster produced a term GPA of at least 3.10 during the fall, with 19 of those student-athletes compiling an average of at least 3.50.

Thirteen Vikings earned Dean's List recognition with their performance during the fall semester.

The team's cumulative grade point average, containing all marking periods for all current student-athletes, stands at 3.30.

In four of the past six seasons, Cleveland State has been named among the National Wrestling Coaches Association's annual Top-30 Scholar All-American team standings. The Vikings were one of only four programs in the Mid-American Conference to finish in the top half in both team GPA and MAC Championship finish in 2019-20.
