CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University wrestling team will close its three-event homestand this weekend by hosting the 13th annual Cleveland State Open this Saturday, Dec. 16.

The first matches will begin at 9:00 a.m. inside CSU's Woodling Gymnasium, and the event will be wrestled to sixth place. Live results and live video ($) will be available through TrackWrestling and can be accessed by clicking here.

Athletes representing over 40 schools are scheduled to compete, including more than 25 Division I institutions being represented. Seven Division I conferences will be represented, including half of the schools from the Big Ten. Five programs ranked among the top 20 in Intermat's most recent Tournament rankings are scheduled to have athletes competing Saturday.

After competing in dual formats on four consecutive days of competition, the Vikings will return to an open format for the first time since Nov. 11. CSU split a pair of duals last weekend at home, falling to Eastern Michigan, 29-13, before rebounding to take down John Carroll, 35-12.

CSU's last action in an open came at the EMU Open, which saw the Vikings have eight placewinners at the event. True freshman John Kelbly won the 197-pound title in the Freshman/Sophomore Division at the EMU Open.

Redshirt senior Nick Corba continues to pace the Vikings with a 14-3 record this season. He owns seven bonus-point wins on the season at 184 pounds. Corba continues to be ranked among the top 20 at his weight class by multiple outlets, including a ranking of 16th by Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine (WIN).

Redshirt senior Gabe Stark also has hit the double-digit wins mark at 174 this season and is 7-3 in open events. Redshirt sophomore Caleb Stockmaster won the Storm Open Dec. 3 at 174 pounds and owns an 8-3 record in open events this season.

In last year's Cleveland State Open, junior Evan Cheek won four matches to place third at 141 pounds. Three of his four wins were of the bonus-point variety. Sophomore Collin Kelly picked up his initial collegiate wins at the event last year and also placed for CSU. Corba did not compete at last year's Cleveland State Open but placed among the top three in both 2015 and 2014.

With its homestand complete after this event, Cleveland State will resume action on the first two days of 2018 as it competes in the Southern Scuffle, which is hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
