KENT, Ohio - The Cleveland State University wrestling team suffered a pair of setbacks at the Thanksgiving Throwdown to nationally ranked Ohio State and host Kent State Tuesday evening inside the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.

In a unique continuous tri-dual format, CSU fell to the powerhouse Buckeyes, 52-0, and lost to the Golden Flashes, 40-3.

Senior Nick Montgomery picked up a win for the Vikings at the 149 weight class in a thrilling contest. The veteran, making his first appearance of the season, won over Kent's Tim Rooney in the second tie-breaker period by a 6-2 margin. Montgomery lost a contest to Ohio State's Micah Jordan via technical fall.

Sophomore Evan Cheek was competitive in both of his matches at 141 but was unable to pick up a victory. He dropped a two-point decision to Kent's Chance Driscoll (6-4) and lost by four points (7-3) to the Buckeyes' Ke-Shawn Hayes.

While the Vikings faced a number of challenges when wrestling Ohio State's plethora of nationally ranked wrestlers, freshman Devon Pingel's effort stood out at 174. Pingel trailed by just two points in the waning seconds but ended up dropping a 12-8 decision.

Freshman Spencer Dusi started the evening with a nice effort at 125 but was unable to rally from an early deficit and fell, 10-6, to Kent's Cory Simpson.

Cleveland State will return to action Saturday, Dec. 3, when it competes at the Storm Open hosted by Lake Erie.
