Annapolis, MD- The Cleveland State Vikings wrestling team headed on the road Saturday for its second competition on the young season, participating in the Navy Classic.

With the group finishing fifth on the day in the nine team field, multiple Vikings continued to improve and wrestle well with strong early season performances. Four CSU wrestlers were able to place in the top four on the day in their respective weight classes, highlighted by a second place finish.

Redshirt sophomore Matt Donohoe led the way for the Vikings with that second place finish in the 157 lb. weight class. Donohoe, the third seed in the bracket, went 3-1 on the day, with all three of those wins coming by way of decision.

A second Viking who showed very well at the Classic was redshirt freshman Michael Carlone. Carlone, the fourth seed in the 133 lb. weight class, went 4-1 to wrestle to a third place finish. After starting the day 2-0 with a win by decision and a second win by pin, Carlone fell in the semi-finals before battling back. He was able to wrestle back with two more wins and secure his third place spot with an 11-5 decision victory.

Junior Ben Willeford and freshman Riley Shaw were also able to pick up fourth place finishes for CSU. Willeford wrestled in the 125 lb. class, with Shaw wrestling at 285 pounds.

Both wrestlers went 3-2 on the day to earn their finishes, with Shaw also battling back from losing his first match.

The Vikings will be back on the mat this Tuesday as they head to John Carroll University for a dual meet. The meet will begin at 7:00 p.m.
