Vikings Fall in Close League Battle to Lock Haven

CLEVELAND- In the closest dual meet of the season to date, the Cleveland State Vikings fell at home in a hard fought battle to the Lock Haven Bald Eagles 19-17 in Eastern Wrestling League action Friday night in Woodling Gymnasium.

Two CSU wrestlers led the way with major decision victories for the home team. Xavier Dyedominated at 174 pounds to earn a 19-6 win, while Mike Carlone equaled him with a major decision, taking home a victory at 133 pounds in a 10-0 shutout. Carlone's win gave him 13 on the year, while Dye picked up the eighth win of his 2012-13 campaign.

In total five Vikings were able to pick up victories, as Matt Donohoe (157), Corey Carlo (165), andNick Anthony(197) were all able to pick up decision wins. Donohoe and Carlo both brought home 5-0 victories, while Anthony won 6-4.

Head Coach Ben Stehurawas happy with how the group worked, but knows they need to continue to get better.

"They worked hard," Stehura said. "We created some opportunities that we weren't able to take advantage of, we're young, those opportunities are the difference between winning and losing."

"After the match they knew we let this one slip away," he added. "They wrestled tough but we got to take advantage of the opportunities we are given."

Stehura and his group of Vikings will look to take advantage of those chances and come out on top when they are back home this Sunday vs. Chattanooga at 1:00 p.m.
