DETROIT, Mich. - The Cleveland State men's tennis team completed its second consecutive undefeated Horizon League season with a 5-2 win at Detroit on Saturday afternoon at the Titan Tennis Complex.

The win improves CSU to 17-6 overall and 7-0 in league action, while UDM falls to 7-11 overall and 1-5 in league action.

The win marks CSU's 23rd consecutive over a league opponent.

"This match didn't really mean much to us in terms of positioning for the league tournament, so it was more about us going out and playing with pride against another league opponent and I thought we did a good job of that," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Both teams had to battle through a few snow showers, cold and windy weather and it was a battle of wills and mental focus and I thought that's why we were able to win in the end."

CSU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by winning two of the three doubles matches. Rob Fox and John Haley earned an 8-4 win at the No. 2 slot, while Yannick Goossens and Chris Klepatz combined for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

"We were able to get two of the doubles matches to get the point and I thought that took a lot of pressure of us," Etzkin said. "Our doubles has continued to improve and that is going to be key next week."

Fox, Goossens and Klepatz all won in straight sets in singles, giving CSU the win.

Fox picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, while Goossens won at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-1 and Klepatz picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win at the No. 5 slot.

John Haley battled for a three-set win at No. 6 singles, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.

CSU is back in action on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. when the Vikings host Buffalo at River Oaks Racquet Club.

CSU will be back in action next weekend at the Horizon League Championship where the Vikings will enter as the No. 1 seed, earning an automatic berth to the semifinals.

CSU's first match will be on Saturday (April 24) against the winner of a first round match from Friday.
