ROCKY RIVER, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's tennis team ran its win streak to five straight with two wins on Sunday afternoon at River Oaks Racquet Club.

The Vikings opened the day with a 5-2 win over Butler and concluded the day with a 7-0 triumph over Case Western.

The two wins improved the Vikings to 16-6 overall, while the victory over Butler kept CSU perfect in the Horizon League at 7-0, allowing the Vikings to clinch the No. 1 seed in the Horizon League Championship.

CSU has now won 22 consecutive matches against league opponents.

Butler took control of the match, winning the doubles point with wins in two of the three contests.

"We didn't come out with a lot of energy or court positioning in our doubles," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We got pushed around and that is pretty disappointing for us because we are a better team than that.

"Our No. 2 team of Rob Fox and John Haley did play well to get a win, but we have to take more pride in our doubles overall and hopefully with some work this week, we will bring a new product to the court.

"After we lost the doubles point, we met as a team and talked about how we were not in crisis mode. Everyone proceeded to go out and win their first singles set and I think that helped shift the momentum a bit toward us.

"To get a win over a great team like Butler feels good. We have a lot of respect for them as a team and what they have accomplished over the years and I am happy to get a win over them."

The Vikings went on to win five of the six singles contests to claim the win.

CSU is back in action this weekend when it closes the regular season with two matches, beginning with a 10:00 a.m. contest at Detroit on Saturday (April 17). CSU will then host Buffalo at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday (April 18).
