CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's tennis team remained perfect in the Horizon League and won its 21st consecutive match against a league opponent with a 6-1 win over Wright State on Saturday afternoon at the Malaga Tennis Center.
CSU improved to 14-6 overall and 5-0 in league play, while the Raiders fell to 13-6 overall and lost for the first time in the league this season (3-1).
"I thought we came out with a lot of intensity today and played well," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Wright State is a talented team and can really sneak up on you if you don't play your best, so I was happy the way we came out and took care of business."
CSU won all three doubles matches, including an 8-3 win at No. 1 by Phil Orno and Ryan Hamning who teamed for their 20th win this season and 89th of their career.
John Haley and Rob Fox won at No. 2 doubles, 9-7, while Yannick Goossens and Chris Klepatz earned an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
"Our doubles play has been getting better and better as the season has been going on," Etzkin said.
CSU then won at No. 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles, all in straight sets.
Orno's 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles was his 95th career victory.
CSU will be back in action two times on Sunday (April 11), hosting Butler at 2:00 p.m. and Case Western at 6:00 p.m. Both matches will take place at River Oaks Racquet Club in Rocky River, Ohio.
