CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The men's tennis team notched its ninth win of the spring against IPFW Friday night at the River Oaks Racquet Club.
With the 6-1 victory, the Vikings are 6-1 on their home court and 9-3 overall.
Cleveland State won the doubles point, sweeping all three matches. The No. 1 team of Phil Orno and Ryan Hamning proved to be the Vikings' anchor once again, posting an 8-5 victory and improving their record to 11-0 on the season.
Orno also paved the way for CSU success in singles, defeating Hermann Kuschke 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot while improving his individual record to 11-1.
Sophomore Robert Fox rolled past Ryan Vogt at No. 5, winning 6-3, 6-2, and is now 9-2 this spring.
"The men really put forth a workman-like effort throughout the lineup, especially in doubles," said Cleveland State assistant coach Jay Tee. "This was a great match for us to prepare for the tough road trip ahead."
The Vikings will travel down to Columbus on Tuesday, March 10 for a 2:00 p.m. match with Ohio State, the third ranked team in the nation. Following last year's NCAA tournament re-match, CSU will travel to Florida for its spring trip. Play begins on Sunday, March 15 when CSU will take on Bethune Cookman in Orlando.
