Columbus, Ohio - Viking seniors Eric Winn and Paul Haley scored a strong 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles against Dayton, but Cleveland State could not take advantage in the singles matches as the Flyers topped CSU, 7-0, at the Racquet Club of Columbus on Tuesday (Feb. 8).

Winn and Haley outplayed Dayton's Tom Murphy and James O'Connell at the first pairing, but the Flyers claimed the No. 2 and 3 matches for the doubles point. After that, CSU could not get going in the singles matches, as Dayton claimed six for the win.

"It's a tough loss," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We were hitting the ball well in the doubles matches, but we couldn't close things out. After that, we weren't able to get things going in singles. We're heading in the right direction, but we need to play at a higher level."

After opening the spring with a pair of losses, Winn and Haley put together a strong showing against the Flyers for their first win since the fall.

"We were finally able to put it together," Winn said. "We played well together today, and we really need that to get us going."

Cleveland State returns to Columbus on Friday (Feb. 11) when they take on Ohio State beginning at 6:00 p.m.
