Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Earns 4-3 Victory At Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team picked up its fifth straight win Friday afternoon, earning a 4-3 victory at Toledo. With the win, the Vikings are now 6-1 overall this year.

"We are on quite a roll with a different person stepping up each match, and today was no different," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Huge credit to Cole for stepping into the lineup and being ready to compete, while Kade got it done for us in the clinching match today after his opponent saved five match points. This entire team loves to compete and wants the big moment, which makes every match we play incredibly fun."

Despite dropping the doubles point and getting behind 2-0 early at the start of singles play, the Vikings were able to respond with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory from Carl Gedlitschka at No. 4 singles, while Devin Boyer evened the match with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win at the No. 5 spot.

Cole Chappell then gave the Vikings a 3-2 edge following a 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles, before Toledo was able to even the match once again with a win at the No. 3 spot.

Cleveland State's clinching point came from senior Kade Mindry at No. 2 singles, as he battled for a 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(5) victory to mark the Vikings' third straight 4-3 win.

Gedlitschka remained perfect this spring at 7-0 in singles play following his win at No. 4 singles, while Boyer improved to 5-1 in dual matches after his win at the No. 5 spot.

Cleveland State will return to action tomorrow, traveling to Ball State for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
