Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Back In Action At Toledo & Ball State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team will return to action with a pair of road matches this weekend, traveling to Toledo on Friday, February 9 and Ball State on Saturday, February 10.

Last Time Out…
Cleveland State picked up back-to-back 4-3 victories at Dayton and Xavier, improving to 5-1 on the young season. The trio of Lincoln Battle, Devin Boyer and Carl Gedlitschka all went 2-0 in singles play against Dayton and Xavier, with Battle and Gedlitschka remaining perfect this spring at 6-0.

On The Road Again
This weekend's matches at Toledo and Ball State mark the third and fourth contests of a four-match roadswing for the Vikings, as they are spending the first two weeks of February away from home. So far this year, the Vikings own a 2-1 record on the road, with 10 more regular season road matches scheduled.

Battle Picks Up Third Straight #HLTennis Weekly Honor
After going 2-0 at No. 2 singles last time out, freshman Lincoln Battle picked up his third straight Horizon League Singles Player of the Week honor. Battle, who owns a perfect 6-0 singles record this spring, has notched all of his dual match victories in straight-sets.

Mindry & Jamison Earn Second #HLTennis Weekly Honor
Once again the Vikings swept the weekly awards from the Horizon League, as the doubles team of Kade Mindry and Nico Jamison were named the Doubles Team of the Week. Mindry and Jamison, who picked up doubles team of the week honors for the second time this season, posted a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Dayton, helping the Vikings pick up the early doubles point in the match.

Gedlitschka Extends Singles Win Streak
Entering this weekend, sophomore Carl Gedlitschka has won eight straight singles matches and is one of two Vikings with double-digit singles wins on the year. Gedlitschka, who stands at 14-3 overall and 6-0 this spring, owns the longest current singles win streak on the team.

Head Coach Brian Etzkin
The Vikings will be under the direction of 22-year head coach Brian Etzkin. As the all-time winningest coach in program history, Etzkin continues the 2024 spring campaign with 314 career wins.
