Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Sweeps #HLTennis Weekly Awards

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the third straight week the Cleveland State men's tennis team has swept the Horizon League weekly awards, as Lincoln Battle picked up his third #HLTennis Singles Player of the Week honor and Kade Mindry and Nico Jamison earned #HLTennis Doubles Team of the Week for the second time.

Last time out, the Vikings picked up back-to-back 4-3 victories at Dayton and Xavier, improving to 5-1 on the young season.

In singles, Battle went 2-0 at the No. 2 spot, picking up a pair of straight-set victories. He opened the weekend with a 7-6(2), 6-3 win at Dayton, and followed that up with a 6-4, 6-4 win at Xavier.

"Lincoln was a major part of our 4-3 wins last weekend, he's competing well in practice and it's paying off in matches for him," head coach Brian Etzkin said.

With the two wins last weekend, Battle remained perfect this spring standing at 6-0, while all six of his dual match wins have come as straight-set victories.

In doubles action, Mindry and Jamison picked up a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles against Dayton, helping the Vikings earn the crucial doubles point on the match. Against the Flyers, the duo represented the clinching match for the early 1-0 lead.

"Kade and Nico are a force to be reckoned with, we needed that doubles point in our first match and they were locked in to help us get the early lead," Etzkin said.

The duo is now 3-1 this spring, as one of Cleveland State's top doubles teams.
