Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Picks Up 4-3 Victory At Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's tennis team opened the weekend with a win Friday evening, picking up a 4-3 victory at Dayton. With the win, the Vikings are now 4-1 on the young season.

Cleveland State was able to pick up the early doubles point against the Flyers, earning wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Kade Mindry/Nico Jamison and Lincoln Battle/Devin Boyer picked up matching 6-3 victory at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively, giving the Vikings the early 1-0 advantage.

Boyer then extended Cleveland State's lead to 2-0 after picking up a convincing 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles, before Battle gave the Vikings a 3-0 edge with a 7-6(2), 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot.

Dayton responded with a pair of wins at No. 3 and No. 1 singles, but Cleveland State was finally able to clinch the match with a win at No. 6 singles from Carl Gedlitschka. With a 7-5, 7-6(5) victory at the No. 6 spot, Gedlitschka secured the victory for the Vikings.

With their wins on Friday, Battle and Gedlitschka improved to 5-0 this spring, while Boyer picked up his team-leading 14th singles win of the year.

Cleveland State will close out the weekend tomorrow, traveling to Xavier for a 5:00 p.m. match.
