Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Picks Up Wins Over Butler & Duquesne

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's tennis team continued dual match play on Sunday, picking up a pair of wins against Butler (6-1) and Duquesne (6-1). With the wins, the Vikings are now 3-1 on the young season.

Carl Gedlitschka and Lincoln Battle both went 2-0 on the day, remaining perfect this spring at 4-0 in singles play. Gedlitschka picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles against Butler, and followed that up with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot against Duquesne, while Battle picked up wins at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-1) and the top of the lineup (6-0, 6-0) over Butler and Duquesne, respectively.

Kade Mindry recorded his first singles win of the spring season against Butler, earning a 6-4, 6-3 straight-set win at No. 3 singles to clinch the match.

The trio of Alan Matyjas (6-0, 6-1), Cole Chappell (3-6, 6-1, 6-4) and Andrew Zimcosky (2-6, 7-6(7), 1-0(5)) all appeared in the singles lineup for the first time this spring, picking up wins in their respective matches.

Also picking up singles wins on the day were Devin Boyer (6-3, 7-5), Mikael Erler (1-6, 6-4, 1-0(6)) and Nico Jamison (7-6(4), 7-5), with all three wins coming against Butler.

The Vikings also picked up the doubles point in the win over Duquesne, with Mikael Erler and Alan Matyjas picking up a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles and Cole Chappell and Ty Rothchild posting a 7-6(2) win at the No. 3 spot.

Cleveland State will continue the spring slate by beginning a four-match roadswing next weekend, traveling to Dayton on Friday, February 2 and Xavier on Saturday, February 3.
