Men’s Tennis Finishes 2022-23 With Top-10 ITA Regional Ranking

TEMPE, Ariz. – For the first time since the 2018-19 campaign the Cleveland State men's tennis team earned a spot in the year-end ITA Regional Rankings, finishing the year ranked 10th in the Midwest Region.

Cleveland State is one of three mid-major teams to earn a spot in the year-end Midwest Regional top-10, and the only Horizon League team to be ranked.

"The team competed really well this year and found ways to win matches with different people stepping up throughout the season," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "I'm proud of the work that the guys put in on and off the court that allowed us to be part of such a great list of teams and earn a postseason regional ranking."

Cleveland State finished the 2022-23 campaign with a 19-8 record and advanced to the Horizon League Tournament semifinals for the 18th time in program history.

The Vikings, who posted their 18th winning season over the last 21 years, recorded their fourth 19-win season under Etzkin during the 2023 spring campaign. Included in Cleveland State's 19 victories was a 10-1 record at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion – the team's second double-digit win season at the MMTP since it opened in 2016.

This marks the fifth time in program history that the Vikings have appeared in the year-end regional rankings, also earning a spot on the list in 2008-09, 2009-10, 2017-18, and 2018-19.
