Erler Named #HLTennis Singles Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After helping Cleveland State men's tennis open Horizon League play with a 2-0 record last time out, junior Mikael Erler has been named the #HLTennis Singles Player of the Week. This marks the second weekly honor for Erler this season, and the fourth time that Cleveland State has claimed Singles Player of the Week accolades.

Last time out, Erler and the Vikings went 3-0 on the weekend, picking up a pair of Horizon League wins against IUPUI (5-2) and Northern Kentucky (6-1), along with a 7-0 sweep over West Liberty. With the wins, Cleveland State improved to 14-6 overall this year, including an 8-1 mark when playing at the MMTP. 

Erler led the Vikings with a 3-0 singles record last weekend, improving to 16-6 overall this year and 8-2 in dual match play. 

To open the weekend, Erler posted a 7-5, 6-4 win over IUPUI, before earning a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Northern Kentucky – with both wins coming at the No. 2 singles spot. With the wins, Erler is now 6-1 during regular season matches against #HLTennis opponents on his Cleveland State career. 

Erler closed out the weekend with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles against West Liberty, helping the Vikings post their third 7-0 sweep of the season.
