ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Cleveland State men's tennis team closed out its first weekend of the 2023 spring season Sunday, dropping a 7-0 decision at No. 5 Michigan.
Despite dropping the opening doubles point, Cleveland State's No. 2 team of JuandeDios Abboud and Carl Gedlitschka had their match tied at 4-4 before it was halted.
Sunday's match against Michigan marked the third contest of opening weekend for the Vikings, and the second top-five opponent for Cleveland State over that stretch.
Abboud also had a solid outing in singles, as he forced his match at the No. 6 spot to a third set before falling 11-9 in the super tiebreaker.
Redshirt-freshman Devin Boyer made his collegiate dual match debut on Sunday, appearing at No. 5 in the singles lineup for the Vikings.
The Vikings will return to action next Saturday (January 28), hosting Xavier and St. Bonaventure in their 2023 home opener.
