Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Drops Regular Season Finale Against YSU

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team closed out regular season play on Saturday, dropping a 5-2 decision against league-leader Youngstown State. The Vikings finished regular season play with a 12-11 overall record and a 6-2 mark in league matches.

"Congrats to Youngstown State, they played the tougher match today and picked up the hard-fought win," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Although today's match didn't end how we would have liked, we are hoping that we see them again next weekend in the Horizon League Tournament. I thought the veteran guys stepped up today and found a way to put some points on the board for us, both Clark and Raul played solid matches against tough opponents. We will now turn our attention to tournament play, and take the week to get prepared for what will hopefully be a strong weekend of Viking Tennis."

Cleveland State's two points came at the No. 2 and No. 5 singles spots, as Clark Bilinovich and Raul Teichmann picked up wins on their respective courts.

Playing in his final match in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion, Bilinovich notched a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win against YSU's Harry Fouzas. With the win, Bilinovich improved to 16-11 overall this season and finished regular season play with a perfect 8-0 record against league opponents.

Teichmann's victory came in a 7-6(7), 3-6, 6-3 decision against David Moreno of Youngstown State, putting Teichmann at 5-1 against league opponents this season.

Cleveland State will return to action at the #HLTennis Tournament next weekend, entering play as the No. 2 seed. The Vikings will open tournament play with a semifinal contest on Saturday, April 30.
