Cleveland State picked up a pair of wins against UIC and IUPUI, improving to 6-1 in Horizon League play this season. The Vikings earned a 6-1 victory over the Flames and a 5-2 win over the Jaguars, marking the season sweep against both teams.
Vikings At The MMTP
The Vikings are closing out the regular season with three straight home matches at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion – a place where the Vikings have compiled a 44-7 record over the last five years. Included in Cleveland State's 44 wins is a perfect 13-0 record against league opponents at the MMTP over the last four seasons of league play.
Vikings Battling For Share Of #HLTennis Regular Season Title
Saturday's match against the Penguins will be a rematch of the #HLTennis opener from earlier this year, where YSU earned a 4-3 victory. With a win on Saturday, the Vikings would clinch a share of the Horizon League Regular Season title – which would be their third straight #HLTennis regular season crown.
Bilinovich Moves Up CSU Singles Wins List
After picking up a pair of wins at No. 3 singles against UIC and IUPUI last weekend, Clark Bilinovich moved into sole possession of 12th place on the CSU Singles Wins List with 63 career victories. Bilinovich, who is currently on an eight-match win streak, owns a perfect 7-0 record against league opponents so far this season.
…Bilinovich & Teichmann Closing In On Doubles Wins List
Entering the final weekend of regular season play, the Cleveland State doubles team of Clark Bilinovich and Raul Teichmann are closing in on the CSU Doubles Wins List, entering Saturday's match with a 19-7 career record as a tandem. Last weekend, the duo earned a 6-3 win against UIC, and currently owns a team-best 5-1 record in league play this year.
2022 #HLTennis Tournament
Regardless of Saturday's outcome, the Vikings will be a top-two seed in the upcoming Horizon League Tournament, and will receive a bye into the semifinals. This year's #HLTennis Tournament will take place in Ann Arbor, Mich. with first round matches on Friday, April 29, semifinals on Saturday, April 30 and the championship match slated for Sunday, May 1.
Head Coach Brian Etzkin
The Vikings are under the direction of 20-year head coach Brian Etzkin, who notched his 290th career victory at the helm of the Vikings with the 5-2 victory over IUPUI last time out. As the all-time winningest coach in program history, Etzkin is one of the longest tenured coaches in the Horizon League, and is the only men's coach to record 275+ wins at their current school.
