Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Earns 7-0 Victory At Northern Kentucky

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team notched its fifth straight victory Sunday, picking up a 7-0 sweep at Northern Kentucky. With the win, the Vikings improve to 10-10 overall this season and 4-1 in Horizon League play.

Sunday's victory over the Norse gave Cleveland State the season sweep over Northern Kentucky, as the Vikings also picked up a 6-1 victory against NKU earlier this year.

"This was a solid team win for us today, as we played well up and down the singles and doubles lineup," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We played some really good doubles to get us off to a good start, and then we won the tight moments throughout singles play. Max picked up a good bounce-back win today, while Raul is slowly returning to form, which could be huge for us down the stretch as we close out the season. I'm really proud of the focus we had on the courts today, going three-for-three in three-set wins, which is hopefully something that we can carry into next weekend."

The Vikings continued their streak of picking up the early doubles point in #HLTennis matches on Sunday, as Clark Bilinivoch/Raul Teichmann and Maxime Mareschal-Hay/Mikael Erler picked up matching 6-1 victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.

Bilinovich quickly put the Vikings up 2-0 to begin singles play, notching a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles. This marked Bilinovich's 61st victory of his career, moving him into 13th place on the CSU Singles Wins List.

Teichmann then gave Cleveland State a 3-0 advantage following a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles, while Kade Mindry clinched the match for the Vikings with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot.

Mindry's win against the Norse marked his team-leading 21st singles victory of the season.

The Vikings also got singles wins on Sunday from Austin Staiger (3-6, 6-4, 1-0(7)) at No. 6 singles, Mareschal-Hay (6-2, 4-6, 6-3) at the top of the lineup and JuandeDios Abboud (3-6, 6-4, 1-0(8)) at the No. 5 spot to give Cleveland State its third 7-0 sweep over the last four matches.

Cleveland State will now close out regular season play with a three-match homestand, beginning with a matchup against UIC on Friday, April 15.
