Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Earns Second Straight Sweep With 7-0 Win At UIC

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team posted its second straight sweep Sunday, earning a 7-0 victory at UIC to close out this weekend's two-match roadswing.

"This was another good road match for us today, we did a great job in the close moments and we are definitely starting to hit our stride," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "It was great to see Raul back in the singles lineup, and everyone had to move up a spot and they all responded well even though every single match had moments where we were pushed and tested. Hopefully we can keep this momentum going down the stretch as we close out the regular season over the next few weeks."

The Vikings kept their streak alive with another doubles point on Sunday, as wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles gave Cleveland State the early 1-0 lead over UIC. Clark Bilinovich and Raul Teichmann earned a 6-1 win at the top of the lineup, while Maxime Mareschal-Hay and Mikael Erler battled for a 7-6(4) win at the No. 3 spot.

Teichmann returned to the singles lineup on Sunday and gave the Vikings a quick 2-0 lead, as he earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 spot.

Cleveland State then gained a 3-0 advantage with a win at No. 3 singles, as Bilinovich notched a 6-4, 6-2 victory to move into sole possession of 14th place on the CSU Singles Wins List with 59 career victories.

Mareschal-Hay clinched the match for the Vikings at the top of the lineup then, as he posted a 6-3, 7-6(5) win to capture Cleveland State's third straight victory.

Austin Staiger added to Cleveland State's lead with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles, while JuandeDios Abboud (7-6(6), 6-2) and Kade Mindry (3-6, 6-1, 7-5) also picked up wins at No. 4 and No. 2 singles, respectively, to close out the 7-0 sweep for the Vikings

Cleveland State will stay on the road for a pair of matches next weekend, traveling to St. Bonaventure on Friday, April 8 and Northern Kentucky on Sunday, April 10.
