Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Opens #HLTennis Slate Against YSU & NKU

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team will open its eight-match Horizon League slate this weekend, traveling to Youngstown State on Friday, March 25 and hosting Northern Kentucky on Saturday, March 26.

2022 #HLTennis Preseason Poll
Earlier this season the Vikings were selected as the preseason favorite to win the Horizon League, picked to defend their back-to-back-to-back titles in the #HLTennis Preseason Poll. The Vikings secured four first-place votes, along with 24 points to beat out second place Youngstown State by six points. Northern Kentucky, UIC and IUPUI rounded out the poll.

…2022 Horizon League Schedule
This year's Horizon League schedule will have a different look to it, as the Vikings will face all four Horizon League opponents twice throughout a round robin schedule. Cleveland State will host all four league opponents, while also traveling to all four league schools throughout the year. 

…Vikings In Horizon League Play 
Over the last two seasons of Horizon League regular season play the Vikings have combined for a 14-0 record, posting a perfect 8-0 mark last season and a perfect 6-0 mark during the 2019 spring campaign. Under head coach Brian Etzkin, the Vikings are 80-37 all-time in regular season #HLTennis matches. 

Cleveland State At The MMTP
Saturday's match against Northern Kentucky will mark the seventh home match of the season for the Vikings, with Cleveland State owning a 5-1 record at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion so far this year. Over the last five years, the Vikings have compiled a 41-7 record when playing at the MMTP. 

Erler Leading The Way In Singles Play
Entering the weekend, Mikael Erler owns a team-best 9-5 singles record so far this spring, and has won seven of his last eight matches, including a three-set victory against #70 UTSA last time out. Erler has spent the majority of the season playing at the No. 2 spot, and stands at 13-11 overall this year.  

Bilinovich Moves Up Singles Wins List
After becoming the 17th Viking to reach the 50-win milestone during the fall season, senior Clark Bilinovich currently ranks 15th on the CSU Singles Wins List with 55 career victories. Bilinovich needs just three more wins to move into a tie for 14th place, while he needs five more wins to become the 14th Viking to reach 60 career singles victories.
