Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Picks Up Wins Against Toledo & Holy Cross

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins on Thursday, earning a 4-3 victory over Toledo and a 6-1 victory over Holy Cross. With the wins, the Vikings are now 5-7 on the season, and have won five straight matches.

In the first match of the day, the Vikings got out to the early 1-0 advantage after picking up the doubles point, as JuandeDios Abboud and Hugo Chatras picked up a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles and Maxime Mareschal-Hay and Mikael Erler picked up a 6-4 victory at the No. 3 spot.

After Toledo picked up the first two singles wins at the No. 5 and No. 4 spots, Cleveland State's Kade Mindry picked up the first singles win for the Vikings, earning a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot to even the score at 2-2.

The Vikings were then able to gain a 3-2 advantage following a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 win from Hugo Chatras at No. 6 singles, before a Toledo win at the top of the lineup evened the score once again at 3-3.

The No. 2 singles match was the final match on court, with Cleveland State's Mikael Erler clinching the match for the Vikings with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 victory.

During the second match of the day, the Vikings were able to cruise to a 6-1 victory over Holy Cross, picking up the doubles point once again and earning five singles points.

Cleveland State's singles wins against Holy Cross came from Erler (No. 2), Mindry (No. 3), Chatras (No. 4), Abboud (No. 5), and Austin Staiger (No. 6).

The Vikings will now take a few days off from competition, returning to action at Florida Atlantic on Wednesday, March 16.
