CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring season Monday afternoon, earning a 7-0 victory against Duquesne.
For just the second time this year the Vikings were able to pick up the early doubles point, as Cleveland State notched matching 6-3 victories at the top two spots. Clark Bilinovich and Raul Teichmann were playing at No. 1 doubles, while Mikael Erler and Hugo Chatras were at the No. 2 spot.
Cleveland State was then able to start singles play with a 2-0 lead after a default win at No. 6 singles, before Teichmann put the Vikings up 3-0 with a win the No. 4 spot. Teichmann picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles, marking his first singles win of the year after sitting out the first part of the season due to injury.
Erler quickly followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win at the top of the singles lineup, clinching the match for the Vikings, marking Cleveland State's first win of the spring campaign. Erler's win marked his team-leading fourth singles win of the spring campaign.
Kade Mindry then added a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, while Bilinovich pulled out a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0(6) victory at the No. 3 spot. With his win at No. 2 singles, Mindry now has a team-best 13 singles wins this year.
Cleveland State's final point of the day came from JuandeDios Abboud, as he battled for a 6-7(4), 6-1, 1-0(6) victory at No. 5 singles.
Cleveland State will return home this weekend, hosting Buffalo and Lawrence Tech on Saturday, February 26.
