Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Falls At Butler, 5-2

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team continued the spring campaign Sunday afternoon, dropping a 5-2 match at Butler.

Sunday's match marked the fourth contest of a six-match roadswing to begin the spring campaign.

"We battled again today, and this team continues to fight no matter what the situation is," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Mikael is really setting the tone for us this year on match day and in practice. He is a great person to look to as we are finding our identity this year. Kade also had a great win today, battling through adversity, and is finally putting everything together on the court. We definitely had some positives to take away from this match as we move forward through the early part of the spring season."

Cleveland State's two points on the day came at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, as Mikael Erler and Kade Mindry both picked up wins against Butler.

Erler posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Butler's Alvaro Huete Vadillo at the No. 2 spot, while Mindry earned a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win against Butler's Drew Michael at No. 4 singles. Erler is now 2-2 this spring, while Mindry owns a team-best 12-7 singles record overall this year.

Cleveland State's season-opening roadswing continues next weekend, as the Vikings will travel to Penn State on Friday, February 4 before facing Dartmouth on Saturday, February 5 in University Park, Pa.
