Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Set For ITA Midwest Regional

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team will return to action this week, participating in the ITA Midwest Regional beginning on Thursday, October 21 and running through Monday, October 25. This year's ITA Midwest Regional will be hosted by Michigan State and will take place in East Lansing, Mich.

Midwest Regional Field
Cleveland State will be one of 16 teams competing in the Midwest Regional, including Horizon League opponents UIC and Youngstown State.

Qualifying Singles Draw
Cleveland State will have six representatives in the Qualifying Singles Draw, including Clark Bilinovich, Hugo Chatras, Austin Staiger, Kade Mindry, Mikael Erler, and JuandeDios Abboud. This group will begin action on Thursday, October 21 in the 64-player Qualifying Draw, with eight players from the Qualifying Draw advancing to the Main Draw. 

Main Singles Draw
Cleveland State's Maxime Mareschal-Hay earned a spot in the Main Singles Draw this year, earning the spot in his first ITA Midwest Regional appearance. The 64-player Main Singles Draw will begin on Saturday, October 23.

Main Doubles Draw
Cleveland State will also have three doubles teams in the Main Doubles Draw, with action in the 64-team bracket set to begin on Friday, October 22.

Midwest Regional History
With his spot in the Qualifying Singles Draw, Clark Bilinovich will make his third appearance at the ITA Midwest Regional, while Austin Staiger, Kade Mindry, JuandeDios Abboud, and Maxime Mareschal-Hay will be making their collegiate debuts at the regional tournament, and Hugo Chatras and Mikael Erler will be appearing in the regional tournament for the first time as Vikings. 

Mindry Named To Bobby Bayliss All-Tournament Team
Earlier this season, Kade Mindry was named to the Bobby Bayliss All-Tournament Team after posting a perfect 4-0 singles record on the weekend. Mindry picked up wins against Michigan State, Marquette and Michigan during the tournament, and was the only Viking to go undefeated in singles play.

Bilinovich Notches 50th Career Singles Win
After going 2-2 at the Bobby Bayliss Invitational, senior Clark Bilinovich notched his 50th career singles win earlier this year, becoming the 17th Viking all-time to reach the milestone. Bilinovich enters ITA Regional play with exactly 50 wins, and is just four wins shy of cracking the top-15 singles wins list at CSU. 

2021 Fall Campaign
This will mark the fifth of six tournaments for the Vikings this fall, with Cleveland State's final tournament of the fall season coming at home in the Viking Invitational (October 29-31). Earlier this year, the Vikings were represented at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic (Maxime Mareschal-Hay) and ITA All-American Championships (Mareschal-Hay and Mikael Erler), while the team also competed at the Bobby Bayliss Invitational and WMU/Vredevelt Invite.
