Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Set For WMU/Vredevelt Invite

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team will return to action at the WMU/Vredevelt Invite this weekend, participating in the two-day event hosted by Western Michigan on Saturday, October 9 and Sunday, October 10.  

Cleveland State will be represented by Austin Staiger, JuandeDios Abboud, Hugo Chatras, Kade Mindry, and Mikael Erler this weekend.

Cleveland State will be one of five teams competing, joining Butler, Chicago State, Notre Dame, and the host Broncos.

WMU/VREDEVELT INVITE TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

2021 Fall Campaign
This will mark the fourth of six tournaments for the Vikings this fall, with Cleveland State also competing at the ITA Midwest Regional (October 21-25) and Viking Invitational (October 29-31). Earlier this year, the Vikings were represented at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic (Maxime Mareschal-Hay) and ITA All-American Championships (Mareschal-Hay and Mikael Erler), while the team also competed at the Bobby Bayliss Invitational.  

Mindry Named To Bobby Bayliss All-Tournament Team
Last time out, Kade Mindry was named to the Bobby Bayliss All-Tournament Team after posting a perfect 4-0 singles record on the weekend. Mindry picked up wins against Michigan State, Marquette and Michigan during the tournament, and was the only Viking to go undefeated in singles play.

Bilinovich Earns 50th Career Singles Win
After going 2-2 at the Bobby Bayliss Invitational, senior Clark Bilinovich notched his 50th career singles win, becoming the 17th Viking all-time to reach the milestone. Bilinovich finished the weekend with exactly 50 wins and is now four wins shy of cracking the top-15 singles wins list at CSU.

Head Coach Brian Etzkin
The Vikings will be under the direction of 20-year head coach Brian Etzkin. As the all-time winningest coach in program history, Etzkin enters the 2021-22 campaign with 278 career wins. Etzkin is one of the longest tenured coaches in the Horizon League, and is the only men's coach to record 275+ wins at their current school.
