Mareschal-Hay Advances In Main Doubles Draw At Milwaukee Tennis Classic

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Cleveland State men's tennis sophomore Maxime Mareschal-Hay began action at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic Saturday, appearing in the singles and doubles draws.

UPDATED MTC DRAWS

In the 16-team doubles field, Mareschal-Hay teamed with San Diego's David Norfeldt to pick up a 7-5 victory in a first round matchup against a Marquette tandem, advancing to the quarterfinals tomorrow morning against VCU.

Mareschal-Hay opened play in the 32-player singles draw against VCU's Rayane Stable, dropping a 6-0, 6-1 decision. Mareschal-Hay then played a singles consolation match, earning a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Illinois' Hunter Heck.

"Max should be very proud of his mental toughness that he showed throughout a long day of tennis today. For him to come back after not playing his best tennis in the morning and go out a beat a very strong player from Illinois in the afternoon is great to see this early in the season," assistant coach Rob Silver said. "I thought he played brilliantly at the most important times of the match today. I think he can draw a lot of confidence from how he played in his afternoon match, and I'm looking forward to getting back on the court tomorrow."

In addition to his main draw doubles match, Mareschal-Hay will also play another consolation singles match tomorrow (Sunday, September 19).
