Terry Picks Up Fourth #HLTennis Singles Player Of The Week Honor

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After helping Cleveland State pick up a pair of wins against Youngstown State last weekend, men's tennis senior Matthew Terry has been named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week. This marks the fourth weekly honor for Terry this season – marking a league-high.

Last weekend, Terry and the Vikings posted back-to-back 6-1 victories against Youngstown State, extending their current win streak to nine straight matches and remaining perfect in Horizon League play. For the season, the Vikings stand at 12-4 overall and 4-0 in league matches.

"Matt has been playing really well over the last few weeks, he is keeping his head down and working hard everyday," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Even when he gets hit with some adversity, he has been buckling down and finding a way to overcome. I'm excited to watch him finish strong."

Terry notched a pair of wins against the Penguins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles last time out, improving to 10-4 overall this season and 4-0 against league opponents.

In the first match of the weekend Terry posted a 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot, and followed that up with a 6-2, 7-6(3) win at the top of the lineup in the series finale. With the wins, Terry now owns a 15-2 record in #HLTennis regular season matches on his career, and has won eight straight regular season matchups dating back to the 2018-19 campaign.

Last weekend's wins against the Penguins also moved Terry into a tie for third place on the CSU Singles Wins List, as he finished the series with 87 career victories. As one of just five Vikings all-time with 85+ wins on their career, Terry joins teammate Nico Mostardi and Ryan Hamning (2006-10) at the No. 3 spot on the list.
