Terry Picks Up Third #HLTennis Singles Player Of The Week Honor

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After helping Cleveland State open up Horizon League play with a 2-0 start last weekend, men's tennis senior Matthew Terry has been named the Horizon League Singles Player of the Week. This marks the third straight weekly honor for Terry – which marks a league-high for the 2021 campaign.

Last time out, Terry and the Vikings picked up back-to-back wins at UIC, opening Horizon League play with a perfect 2-0 record for the 10th time under head coach Brian Etzkin.

"Over these last few weeks Matt has been locked in on the court - both in practice and in matches - he is playing at a high level right now and you can tell he is on a mission," Etzkin said. "He is playing some great tennis right now, and he is really helping the team set the tone with his energy and focus in singles play. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can accomplish over the next few weeks of the regular season."

Terry picked up a pair of wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, extending his current winstreak to six straight matches. In the weekend opener, Terry earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the top of the lineup, while he followed that up with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot in the series finale – marking the clinching point of the match.

With the two wins against the Flames, Terry improved to 8-3 overall this season, including a 6-1 record when playing at the top of the singles lineup.

For his career, Terry now has 85 career wins, ranking fifth on the CSU Singles Wins List as one of just five Vikings all-time to reach the 85-win milestone. In Horizon League regular season matches, Terry now owns a 13-2 record.

Terry and the Vikings will take a break from Horizon League play this weekend, hosting Case Western at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 3.
